Ascension Island is an isolated volcanic island, 7°56' south of the Equator, in the South Atlantic Ocean. It is about 1,600 kilometers from the coast of Africa and 2,250 kilometers from the coast of Brazil. A tiny dot of green in the tropical mid-Atlantic is a volcanic outpost of an empire where it's hot and cold at the same time.
